When I quit my “Monday through Friday, 9-5″ job a year ago to pursue my own business full time, I was scared. No, I was scurred… I had no idea if I would make it or if anyone would even hire little ‘ol me to photograph their special moments.  I honestly bet myself that after a month, I’d probably need to get another job again just to pay the bills. I was so nervous of failing MISERABLY. But I suppose that’s the risk anyone takes when they decide to start their own business. Looking back now, I know without a doubt, that was one of the very best decisions I have ever made in my life. I never realized how working for someone else had been holding me back in a huge way. I’ve been a photographer for almost 12 years but it wasn’t until I was able to truly spread my wings and fly, that I could become the artist I was meant to become. I was an artist that had been placed in a box and didn’t even realize the potential I had inside of me to be all that I was created and designed to be. Taking that huge leap of faith was probably the scariest thing I have done, but the best. This big wide world can be so intimidating. But I truly, truly believe in living your dreams and trying your HARDEST to make them a reality.

Looking back on this past year, I am truly in awe. I cannot believe how amazing it has been and all of the many blessings I have been given. I was able to travel to New York City, Paris, Jamaica, Virginia, California, Florida and Chicago for both work and play. I look forward to much more traveling next year! I can’t get enough of it and I feel like the luckiest girl alive to be able to do TWO of my favorite things ever : see the world and photograph it. I am blessed. I wake up everyday and wonder to myself why God loves me this much. I don’t take credit for anything, because I know He is the one who has given me everything I have. However I do know that my life would be different if I hadn’t been the one to step out and chase my potential. God will only give us so much and then we have to be brave enough to do the rest. I believe WITH ALL MY HEART that you can do ANYTHING you want. If you set your mind and heart and every bit of your being to it, you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t let your dreams be just dreams.

I only have one life and I am determined to make it the best one I can possibly make it. Thank you to each and every one of you who share a part of that journey with me. You will all forever be imprinted on my book of life – and I can honestly say I love you so dearly for it! Thank you a million times over for being a part of my story.

2009 has been the BEST year of my life so far for so so so many reasons. I have experienced amazing things, I have learned so much about myself, I have met AMAZING people, and I have lived some of my dreams. I am so excited about the future!

Life may not always be perfect, but I am so grateful for every bit of it. The perfect and the imperfect. For the imperfect moments make you appreciate the perfect ones so much more. In 2010 I look forward to growing more, learning more, loving more, experiencing more, dreaming more, inspiring more, and living more.

Life is what you make it: dream and believe.

xoxo.

Below are just a few of my amazing clients shot this past year. I look forward to the many more in 2010 and to all that the future holds.

When Valerie contacted me earlier this year to introduce herself as a wedding planner in Southern Louisiana, I knew I was going to like her! We met up shortly after and I was right! She is young, creative and sees the wedding industry a lot like I do. I love that her perspective on wedding planning is fresh and hip. Not to mention, she is a complete sweetheart and SO EASY to work with! Any bride would be LUCKY to have Valerie planning their wedding. She is the owner of Southern Fete Event Planning and she also recently started an invitation company called Butterscotch Press. Please make sure you check out her work, she is super talented! If you’re looking for fun, modern and classic style invitations, she is your girl!

I was honored to shoot some photos for her website/blog! We had a great time and below are a few of my favorites. She kept warning me that she is so difficult to photograph, but I was all, “PHHSSSHHH whatever girl, you’re gorgeous!” Check out how amazing she looks and seriously, if you’re contemplating a wedding planner: CALL VALERIE. She will make your wedding day and planning go smoothly and wonderfully.

Thanks again Valerie for everything! There are nothing but bright things ahead in your future girl!

I’ve known Sarah for many years now and truly all I have are good things to say about her. She has been such an awesome person to know for so many reasons! She is one of the most beautiful people I know inside and out and I am lucky to call her my friend! I’ve shot her boudoir photos, her wedding photos (see the pictures here) and now her maternity photos! I’m totally honored when a client/friend asks me to photograph all the special moments and be a part of journeys in their life. It’s truly flattering. Below are a few of my favorites from the shoot.

Sarah, you’re completely gorgeous and radiant. You and Steffan are going to be amazing parents and I cannot wait to meet him!! Thank you so much for inviting me to document this special time in your lives!

There are so many love stories that I adore. But I’m not going to lie, the story between Edward and Bella is truly one of my favorites for many reasons. I’ll admit when the Twilight craze first began, I was not interested at all. I didn’t see the first movie until several months after it was released and even then I wasn’t that interested. It wasn’t until I went to see it a second time and gave it my complete and full attention that I fell in love with them! It wasn’t the way the movie was filmed, the actors who played the roles, or the fact that it’s complete fantasy about a vampire loving a human. It was the story of intense love and passion that drew me into this particular story. I love that they were instantly drawn to each other and had an undeniable connection even though they were worlds apart. The love they shared was so deep and intense that hardly any words had to be exchanged for them to know that they were deeply in love with each other. It didn’t matter to them that maybe the world would look down on them for being together – they truly and passionately loved each other and that’s all that mattered. Edward’s natural instinct to protect Bella is the thing I most love about the story. If he could he would give his own life for her if it meant protecting her and keeping her safe. He would do anything for her and be there for her whenever she needed him. That’s the kind of love that I am IN LOVE with!! That is why I love this story so much. I’ve been wanting to do a shoot for quite a while now that was inspired by their love. I asked Jewel and Phillip if they would mind modeling for me and letting me capture the mood of Bella and Edward’s love through my lens. I was honored when they obliged and I’m not sure I could have picked a better couple. They are so awesome and were so easy to work with. We had a lot of fun and below you will see a FEW of my favorites. I loved every single shot taken that day so it was extremely difficult to pick a few for the blog. If you know me at all, I hardly ever change my photographs to black and white… but several of the following are because I just felt they went so well with the mood of this shoot.

One of the reasons I love what I do so much is because I am able to express my inner soul and heart through photographs of other people. This photo shoot represents a very deep and vulnerable part of who I am on the inside. Every photograph you look at, you see a part of me. I hope you like what you see…

I hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving! Mine was full of spending time with friends and family, eating lots, laughing a lot and remembering the truly important things in life! Overall, it was completely perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more! I really wish we could have Thanksgiving more than once a year because it’s one of my favorite holidays and one day to celebrate per year just isn’t enough!

Speaking of being thankful… I’m so lucky to have clients as cool as these two. All of my clients are so amazing in their own way, and every time I get to spend time with each of them I am reminded how blessed I am. Julie and David are the bomb in every way! It was a perfect fall day – the air was crisp, a little windy and the fall colors were all around us. We headed downtown to capture their love and had a blast! David’s incredibly funny personality kept us both laughing the entire shoot. I LOVE that! Laughing with my couples makes every shoot SO. MUCH. FUN. These two are a match made in Heaven. The way God brought them together is a beautiful story and I look forward to documenting their decision to commit to one another “’til death do us part” in just a few months!! I heart my job!

I’m thankful for: (in no particular order)

– God, because if it weren’t for him, I know I wouldn’t be as blessed as I am.
– love, for it conquers all
– you, because if you weren’t reading my blog, I’d be writing to cyberspace alone!
– family, because they love you through your ugly and your pretty.
– cowboy boots, because they help me rock my photo shoots out.
– Apple Inc, nuff said.
– Michael, you have taught me what true love really means.
– the camera, without you I wouldn’t be able to express my inner soul
– the color pink, because it makes me feel girly.
– true friends, because they are there for you no matter what.
– Mischa, because she is seriously the most awesomest coolest sweetest dog on the planet!
– technology, where would I be without you?
– hardships, for they only make me better and stronger
– my amazing clients, for without you, I could not be the artist God intended me to be.

I could go on and on about what I’m grateful for but I’ll stop there. 2009 has been the best year of my life so far and I’m so thankful for all the many blessings I’ve been given. I strive everyday not to take any of it for granted. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Don’t eat too much! I’ll leave you with a few photos I took of my lovely bride Caitlyn in downtown New Orleans. They were all shot at night using street lights as the lighting source. Enjoy!
