Julie is one of the most patient and determined women I have met. Her drive to never settle and only wait for the best… her true love… was incredibly refreshing. She knew her whole life that there was someone special for her and she wasn’t about to settle for just anyone.  On December 28th, 2008, that special someone finally walked into her life and the rest as they say… is history. David and Julie have so much in common and are so obviously perfect for each other but one of my favorite things is their passion for God. After getting to know them during their engagement shoot and over the course of the last several months, it was so obvious to me how much they not only loved each other, but how much they loved God.  They both constantly give Him the credit for their existence and for everything they have. Every single one of my couples inspire me in some way and Julie and David inspired me to love God more deeply and more passionately. I am so grateful for my clients for many reasons, but I think mostly for their inspiration. So to Julie and David: thank you for not only giving me the incredible opportunity to document your love, but for inspiring me to be a better me.

Julie’s ring was incredible! I loved the style of it.

While I hung out with the bride…

…Mikey was with the groom.

thewedding003

I loved her bouquet! I loved it’s bright colors, perfect blend and short stems. Bouquets like this one, in my opinion, photograph the best.

A dashing prince…

…for a stunning princess.

Julie and David opted to experience a “First Look” before their ceremony. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… this is one of the very best decisions you can make for your wedding day. There are SO many reasons a First Look is a great idea. For starters it’s such a sweet and emotional moment like this one… just look at the anticipation Michael captured on his face from this angle:

thewedding008

You can see in the next two photos David started to get a little choked up waiting to see his bride.

thewedding011

This may be one of my favorite photos ever – and I didn’t even take it yo!! (Mikey, you’re amazing!)

thewedding009 thewedding010 thewedding012

I just luuurve moments like these – and I know that Julie and David will be so excited that they can remember that moment forever because of pictures like this:

Are they a beautiful couple or what?! Someone please pinch me!

thewedding019

I truly love: LOVE.

thewedding020

This photo is completely random, but I just love how adorable Julie looks with all of her extremely tall brothers!

thewedding006

Julie saved the petals of the roses that her dad had given her for years and years and then used them to decorate her white runner leading her and her dad to the altar. How awesome is that!

thewedding022

I just had to post this photo of David’s expression as Julie made her way down the aisle to him to prove to anyone hesitant about doing a First Look that the groom still gets excited when he sees his bride coming towards him. The First Look doesn’t take away from that special moment whatsoever.

thewedding023 thewedding024

thewedding025

This may have been the most passionate ceremony kiss I have ever seen!

thewedding026

They were practically running down the aisle after becoming husband and wife! I loved their excitement!!!

Love this with her father:

David and his mother were quite the dancers: I was impressed.

thewedding031 thewedding032

Julie and David share a lot in common but one of those things is their passion for music and singing. As one of their close friends played the piano (yes, the one with the sucker in his mouth! — sweets and candy were one of their themes at the reception – they even had a cotton candy machine!), they serenaded each other to Rascal Flatts’ “God Blessed the Broken Road”.

thewedding034

Julie and David – thank you so much again for inviting me into your lives! I heart you both!

I’ve been without the internet for 4 days and honestly, if I said I missed it I would be lying. Getting away from the normal “to do’s” and soaking in the wonderful Jamaican air has been incredibly refreshing and just what I need. I’m taking a quick break from paradise just to check in and say hi! We are here for a few more days with no agenda whatsoever and looking forward to taking advantage of doing nothing at all! I thought I might be blogging a few things while here but I think I might just pack the computer away and just enjoy Jamaica. : ) So internet, see you when I get back home!

Michael snapped this photo of me directing my couple that we shot this weekend here in Jamaica. More on their wedding and Trash the Dress shoot coming soon!

Today I arrive in paradise. Today I will be in one of my favorite places. Today I will sink my toes into the sand in Negril, Jamaica! I have been looking forward to this trip for quite some time now. After going to Negril last summer for the first time (to shoot a wedding), I have been itching to go back. It was one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever been and I am pumped to be going back! We’ll be there to shoot a wedding this weekend and then spending a few days extra after the event for a mini vacation. I am beyond thrilled to not only get a few days off to relax… but that I’ll be able to do it on the amazing island of Jamaica. Perfect clear blue water, fruity umbrella drinks, & gorgeous weather… here I come! Holllla!

I’ll have limited internet access while there but will try to blog a little if possible. I will be answering all emails and phone calls on February 19th!

A “day after” trash the dress is always a challenge for the bride and groom even though I am always VERY excited about it. The sun didn’t come up until 7am but Amber and Luke wanted to go out to the area that their love first began so they barely got any sleep and still got up and looked gorgeous for the early morning shoot. A “trash the dress” or newlywed photo shoot is a great way to get even more beautiful pictures of you and your new spouse when you can relax a little more and don’t have the pressure of the wedding day events on your mind. Plus you don’t have to worry about keeping your dress spotless anymore.

We stopped at a couple beautiful spots on the side of the highway while the sun was still low and the light was perfect and ended in the snow at Estes Park near the sight of their first romance. After it was all over Amber and Luke took Mikey and I to a little breakfast place at the foot of the mountains where we got to share laughs and get to know each other better. I truly love my clients!!! Amber and Luke it has been so great getting to know you. I trust that you are having a great time in Hawaii! — jealous!!

How beautiful is this light? Mikey got this first one and I love it.

M took this one as well and it’s definitely one of my favs.

coloradodayafter004 coloradodayafter005 coloradodayafter006 coloradodayafter007

I absolutely LOVE the chemistry these two have. Luke was constantly making Amber laugh.

coloradodayafter008

M captured Amber’s expression beautifully here:

coloradodayafter009

What a good looking pair:

coloradodayafter010 coloradodayafter011

Once we got to Estes Park, there was tons of snow everywhere. It was so cold but SO worth it for the photos we got.

coloradodayafter012

M shot this beauty: (has anyone noticed how many of his shots I am using? I should probably be worried- but I’m actually just super proud of him!)

coloradodayafter013

I just love Amber’s red coat she brought. It was the perfect touch!

coloradodayafter014 coloradodayafter015 coloradodayafter016

I suggested a snowball fight but I think Luke was cheating and grabbed armloads of snow instead of a ball of snow.

coloradodayafter017 coloradodayafter018 coloradodayafter019

Tackle!!!!

coloradodayafter020 coloradodayafter021

They are true sports for laying in the snow long enough to get pictures like this one.

One more that Michael shot:

… the end to a perfect shoot and the beginning of a perfect life together.

This love story begins in Rocky Mountain National Park west of Denver just outside of Estes Park. Amber and Luke first met there while working as staff at a summer camp.  The sparks didn’t really fly until Luke asked Amber to sleep under the stars at the top of a hill after they had been gathering firewood together. Luke may have been a little too subtle with his flirting because Amber invited six other guys to come up and camp out with them! Bummer! Although he didn’t immediately get the alone time that he had hoped with Amber, Luke did get the privilege of finding out that Amber kicks in her sleep and his head somehow got the short end of the stick in the middle of the night several times. Their alone time followed soon thereafter and even though Luke is from England and Amber lives in Colorado they made the long distance feel much shorter with their love and affection for each other. The nearly 5000 miles that separated them was no match for their grit and determination and for the true love which they hold for each other.

I am SO very honored I was able to not only document their passion and love, but simply that I got the opportunity to know two people with such determination to make it work. Amber and Luke, I wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you so much for inviting me into your world!

Here are a few of my favs: (their Day After photos are coming tomorrow)

coloradowedding002

Michael captured this great detail shot of Luke getting ready. Check out his Superman cuff links!

coloradowedding001 coloradowedding003

Luke and Amber decided to do a First Look before their ceremony – the joy on their faces to get to spend such a special and intimate moment with each other with live forever in their pictures and it will be a time they never forget.

coloradowedding004

I absolutely adore the anticipation building up until this very moment: (Michael got the following two shots and I LOVE them.)

coloradowedding005

Especially this one.

coloradowedding006

coloradowedding007 coloradowedding008 coloradowedding009 coloradowedding010

Love this.

coloradowedding011 coloradowedding012 coloradowedding013

I’m not sure I’ve seen a happier couple! Look at those smiles!

coloradowedding014 coloradowedding015

Michael shot this one of Amber’s beautiful laugh.

coloradowedding016 coloradowedding017 coloradowedding018

In February you would think there would be tons of snow everywhere in Colorado, but it ended up being the same temperature in Denver as in Louisiana!

coloradowedding019

coloradowedding020 coloradowedding021 coloradowedding022 coloradowedding023

They were all smiles the entire day.

coloradowedding024 coloradowedding025

At the reception, Luke’s best men (plural) got up and explained a British celebration/tradition of “crackers” which are used during celebrations such as Christmas, weddings, New Years, etc. Inside of each cracker is a paper crown, a small token, and a piece of paper with a (bad) joke on it. Daniel and Ollie did their best to steal the show with their British schoolboy charm and wit during the toast but in the end it was Amber and Luke’s moment and they ROCKED it.

coloradowedding026

My fabulous couple Julia and Vas were guests at their wedding. You may remember their pictures from Jamaica last summer. They are still madly in love as you can see.

coloradowedding028

The party went on for hours and it was nothing short of a blast. All in all, the entire day was perfect and I am so lucky I was able to be a part of it!

COMING TOMORROW: Amber and Luke’s Day After (aka Newlywed) shoot!

It was over a year ago that I first heard Kina’s name. A mutual friend of ours was telling me all about her and what an awesome person she was. I couldn’t help but want to get to know this Kina a little better but she lived in Chicago and I lived in Louisiana. It wasn’t until I was there a couple of weeks ago (hosting a boudoir marathon in The Windy City) that we were both able to finally meet and squeeze in a mini engagement shoot for her and her fiance’ Jonathan. After spending a little time with her and getting to know her better, it all made sense what my friend had told me all along. Kina really is an amazing woman and someone I have enjoyed getting to know. Her joy and passion for life is what makes her so special and I was honored to get to spend some time with someone so incredible. Jonathan is a lucky man and vice versa. His adoration and love for Kina is truly charming and I just know they will be very happy together.

K+J: Thanks so much for braving the wind and cold in Chicago to spend a little time with me. I am glad to know you both. : )

Here are a few of my favorites from their shoot:
