This past weekend one of my dear friends put together some amazing footage of my boudoir studio. He is an incredibly talented cinematographer and editor and such an amazing friend. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such creativity and talent. I am inspired by the video he made and I hope you will be too.

Thank you Noah for being one of the best friends I have ever had. I am so grateful to have you in my life.

All you need is love – one of the truest statements I have ever heard. I believe it with every bit of who I am. And it was proven on Lauren and Joe’s wedding day. It turned out to be one of the nastiest days (weather wise) that I have ever experienced while shooting a wedding, but that didn’t affect these two love birds whatsoever. When I arrived, drenched from running in the rain, Lauren had the BIGGEST smile on her face. She never once complained, got upset, or lost her smile the ENTIRE day. It was so inspiring to me that she wasn’t going to let anything, even the tornado-like weather, ruin her wedding day. And she truly didn’t.

Any good wedding photographer will tell you that shooting weddings is HARD. It’s completely different than anything else because it is ALWAYS in an uncontrolled environment, you’re on a strict timeline, and there is no room whatsoever for mistakes. It’s certainly NOT for every photographer out there.  There is no “rescheduling” because of weather or other reasons… you literally have to make the best out of WHATEVER you are given and sometimes it can be extremely challenging. This is why hiring a talented and experienced wedding photographer is crucial… because it’s nothing like doing a photoshoot. Nothing at all. You may have read my tweet about how Lauren’s wedding was one of the most challenging of my career… and it’s true. The terrible weather made things extremely difficult. It wasn’t only raining, but it was incredibly windy so it made everything almost impossible to do. It also adds a little stress to the day which I don’t normally feel… including worrying about my equipment getting ruined. Again, not easy. By the end of this day I was exhausted. But I knew I had given it 100% and that was all I could do. When I left that day, I felt so grateful and so humbled to have been a part of this experience.

Even though it was challenging, Lauren and Joe’s wedding was to this day one of my absolute favorites for many many reasons. One for their beautiful spirits and love for one another. And two, because of how much time Lauren spent into all of the details of her day. She was one of the most organized brides I have ever worked with and it showed come the wedding day. She incorporated their love for music and all things vintage and I ADORED every.single.detail of this theme. If you know me at all, you know I LOVE all things vintage… so I was just a little excited to shoot this wedding. I knew it would be different than what I normally do and I only wish more brides leaned this way because I LOVE IT. Having a theme for the wedding day is a brilliant idea.

The wedding was set to take place at Lauren’s great aunt’s house, which of course… was just so special, meaningful and intimate. It also ended up being AMAZING for all the shots as the house just happened to be decorated to fit her vintage theme. This day couldn’t have been more perfect for these two people who were brought together through music. I will let the images just speak for themselves. I am certain you will feel the love they share through this story captured through images.

Lauren & Joe – sigh, “thank you” just doesn’t feel good enough. It means SO much that you choose ME to capture this day. I am SO SO blessed I was able to be there to witness it and I won’t forget it as long as I live. Lauren, thanks for being so inspiring in everything you do. Please never forget, that all you need is love. xoxo

The bouquet and flowers were all OUTSTANDING. Randy Jackson of It’s Flower Tyme did an amazing job and got exactly what Lauren was looking for. Hiring a talented florist is SO important!

Every little detail was perfection, down to the flower girl basket and bridesmaid’s bouquets.

Loved the undergarments she chose, GORGEOUS. And the necklace was her mother’s which she also wore on her wedding day.

Even the boutonnieres were so cute and fitting. (the right photo)

Ah, the dress!! When Lauren emailed me several months ago and let me know she’d be wearing her mother’s gown, I DIED!!!!! I have been ITCHING to shoot this wedding ever since. People always talk about their daughters wearing their dress, but very rarely does anyone do. This dress couldn’t have been more PERFECT for Lauren – it fit her like a glove and was absolutely beautiful. It honestly reminds me of something straight out of Anthropologie’s new wedding line BHLDN.

Loved the bridesmaid’s dresses!

Lauren is a graphic designer so naturally she designed all of her letterpress for the wedding… the Save the Dates, invitations, RSVPs, etc. Her talent is so obvious.

She even designed the program for the wedding. It was so incredibly unique and well thought out.

The dress Lauren would be changing in to after the ceremony & the maid of honor’s dress.

There is something I just LOVE LOVE about this photo:

We decided to imitate a photo from her mother’s wedding album which I just love.

Stunning.

Lauren and Joe opted to see each other before the wedding ceremony. Also know as the FIRST LOOK. It was still pouring cats and dogs outside but thankfully her great aunt had a lovely porch for us to have this special moment.

As you can see, the awful weather didn’t change their mood one bit.

Lauren came to my boudoir studio (The Boudoir Vixen) several months ago to do a shoot for Joe. She has kept it a secret all this time and surprised him with it after their First Look. I think his face says it all.  ; )

After letting them share their intimate and loving FL together, we shot some photos of the beautiful couple.

Then it was the ceremony time!! Even though the ceremony was originally set to be outside, Lauren told me right before we started that her mother actually walked down some stairs on her wedding day. So it was obviously meant to be! And I just love the look on her face in the photo to the right. That smile didn’t leave her face all day. It was so amazing and refreshing to see her not care at all that her wedding plans had been changed. She was just so ecstatic that she was marrying Joe, and nothing was going to change that. LOVE.

There ceremony was lovely. I captured this angle of the first kiss…

… and Deirdre got this side.

Bliss:

Even after the ceremony, the weather was still TERRIBLE so we shot the bridal party shots inside and I decided to go for a little more untraditional look.

We then headed to the reception location: The Thirsty Hippo. This place is very special to both Lauren and Joe as they have both spent a lot of time there together, getting to know each other and doing one of their favorite things together, listening to different bands play music. It couldn’t have been a more fitting place for this couple’s celebration. I walked in and absolutely fell in love with how different it was.

All of the details were in-credible. Just see for yourself…

Everything tied in together SO PERFECTLY. Every single detail was so creative and well thought out… even down to the party favors being in a guitar case. Genius.

By the time we had arrived at The Thirsty Hippo, the rain had FINALLY stopped. When I say, that I have never been so happy for the rain to stop…. this was the day I really meant it. I jumped on this blessing and asked the couple to do a few more pictures while we still had a little bit of daylight left. Lauren had changed into her reception dress at this point.

After feeding each other cake, Lauren and Joe went inside to enjoy their friends play for them.

Then they shared their first dance together…

LOVE:

The special thing about this dance is Lauren’s dad and brothers were playing the song they danced to.

After that, Lauren, Joe and Lauren’s mom joined them for a song. It was a family affair to be remembered forever!! I absolutely adored this moment.

After an amazing night, Lauren & Joe paraded down the street with a banner Lauren created and all of their friends behind them. Perfect ending to a perfect day.

And I leave you with another sneak peek of my exciting news announcing later today!! Have you guessed what it is yet? ; )

It’s been exactly 2 weeks to date since I have done a blog post. SHAME SHAME SHAME on me. I seriously am slapping myself. UGH. I really and truly have no excuses. Simply, the blog took a hike to the bottom of my priority list the last 2 weeks and I am a very bad girl for allowing that to happen! NO MORE. I’m totally making up for it today by posting a wedding I shot 2 weeks ago. You may remember Megan and Daniel from their engagement shoot (which you can see here). I tell a lot of their story on that post about how they have known each other most of their lives. I love that these 2 best friends, became husband and wife, and I got to witness it. I am always so humbled at every single wedding. It never amazes me the honor I feel being a part of SUCH a huge occasion. I mean really… I realize a wedding is one of the most important and significant days of a person’s life. It still blows my mind that I am so blessed to be a part of so many of those amazing memories. : )

It was a PERFECT day for a wedding. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Everything went off without a hitch and I enjoyed every moment. Below are a few of my favorites from their day.

Megan and Daniel thank you so much for being so kind, generous and wonderful in every way. I hope with all of my heart you cherish your wedding photographs forever. xo

You already know what’s coming…. THE FIRST LOOK! YES. Now, I will be honest here… it took some convincing on Daniel’s part to get him to agree to the First Look. In my experience, it’s generally the grooms, not the brides, who are hesitant to the idea of a First Look. Why is that you ask? Well, I will tell you. A man is told his WHOLE LIFE, no trained, that on the day of his wedding he is not allowed to see his bride whatsoever until she walks down the aisle. Like, IT’S FORBIDDEN. It’s made to be this HUGE deal, aka tradition, that when someone like me or anyone suggests no longer abiding by this “rule/tradition”, the groom instantly feels like he would be committing a crime to go along with this. But after thinking about it logically, Daniel knew we wouldn’t have any light after the wedding to capture those gorgeous shots… not to mention, he would be able to get to the reception much sooner. (That’s the part that always appeals to the guys! “wait, less photos after the ceremony? YES!”) I can honestly say, I know Megan and Daniel are so glad they did the FL. I captured this shot of Megan walking up…

Deirdre got this angle…

YAY!

The First Look is truly a special and intimate moment you wouldn’t be able to share on your wedding day without it.

After a few sweet words and laughs were exchanged, we took the time to snap some photos…

Hands down, favorite shot of the day. It’s magical.

We were able to get all the bridal party photos out of the way.

As soon as the ceremony was over we snapped a few family photos…

…the the couple enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife.

After a wonderful night of dancing and spending time with loved ones, the couple said their goodbye!

And to end this post, I will leave you with a sneak peek of an exciting announcement coming NEXT WEEK!!!! Stay tuned. ; )

I met Cindy years ago through a mutual friend… long before David came into the picture. And I can honestly say I am just so happy she found her soulmate. David is so sweet and they make the most perfect match. I know how important photos are to Cindy so when she decided to hire me as her wedding photographer, I was more than just a little flattered. It always means the WORLD when anyone hires me to be a part of this special time in their life. I honestly wake up every day and think to myself how amazed I am that so many people trust me with photographing their wedding. I don’t take it lightly whatsoever and every one of my clients are so special to me.

Thank you Cindy and David, for trusting me with your story. I hope I do it justice. ; ) xoxo

Cindy you are GORG!!! Can I have your skin please?

It starts with an idea in my mind. I paint the picture in my head, then I do whatever it takes to make the inspiration that I created happen. A week ago I painted a Valentine’s Day image in my head with one of my favorite little girls, Blakeleigh. If you’ve been a long time follower, then you already know that I have been photographing this beautiful little girl (who is my cousin’s daughter) since she was 3 months old. She is almost 5 now and still just as cute and full of personality as ever. We did the shoot yesterday just in time for the big HEART day so we could give you a little LOVE!! Consider this photo shoot my Valentine’s Day card to you. I hope it makes you smile and warms your heart!! HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Lots of XOXOXOOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO!!!

It was a cloudy day and just a few days before Christmas. Amanda and Alex were in town from New York for the holidays to visit family, so we managed to squeeze in their engagement shoot while they were here. The sun only peeped out for less than 60 seconds at one point. Long enough for me to get ONE “sun” shot!! But I love the soft look we got in the photos that day and I look forward to shooting their wedding this Spring!! Thanks Amanda and Alex for everything!!! xo

Dear Blog:

I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe everything happens for a reason and I believe God directs our every step. I also believe God really, really loves us. Little things will happen from time to time that remind me of this very thing. It’s incredibly mind blowing at times just how much He will go out of His way to make sure it’s obvious just how much He cares about me. I will tell you a story of how I was reminded recently…

There are a few things I am very very passionate about in life. If you’ve been following me for a while you already know the two obvious ones: photography and traveling. Another one is music. So much of my inspiration in life and photography is drawn from music. And I don’t mean the cookie cutter, surface-y, fun to dance to kind of music. I mean the deep, passionate, heartfelt kind. The kind that has a message and captivates your very being. There are several bands that write this type of music, but one in particular has completely rocked my world. RED. When I was first introduced to them in 2007, I was instantly hooked after hearing one song. You know how we “click” with people? Well, I CLICKED with this band. If I could write music and lyrics, I would be doing it just like them. I feel like they take the very words out of my mouth and play the very music my soul feels inside. I have never been so inspired by a band until Red came into my life. They are so so incredibly talented and obviously gifted by God. Their music is absolutely beautiful and their lyrics inspire me beyond explanation. I’ve actually cried many times to some of their songs!! They are THAT GOOD. (If you’re wondering what type of music they are similar to, Breaking Benjamin comes to mind.)

A little over a year ago on my 27th birthday, I made a list of 100 things I wanted to accomplish before I turned 30. You can read the entire list HERE. #46 is “meet the band RED and tell them how much their music inspires me”. When I wrote this one on the list, I knew I would do it… but I had no idea how. A little over a month ago Red announced they were doing a random giveaway to 50 people to attend their album release party in Nashville. I of course jumped on this opportunity, but highly doubted I would win. It was random drawings, totally by chance. Well, I was one of the incredibly lucky ones to be chosen to go.  You should have seen me when I got the email letting me know I was invited to attend. I was squealing like a teenager! I instantly said a prayer and thanked God because I knew this was his way of telling me he really loved me!! I know this may not seem like a huge deal to most, but I know deep in my heart that it was a huge deal to me and God knew that too. I was going to get the opportunity to cross of #46 and in an AWESOME way!!

So I put on my leather skinny pants, and headed to Nashville. The party was incredible. It was a super intimate event where the band performed a couple of songs of their album that released that very night at midnight, hung out with everyone that attended with one on one time and took photos with each of us. I got to bring one of my best friends Judah with me (who is actually the one who introduced me to them years ago) so that was way cool. When I arrived at the party I was given a VIP tag that had the number 64 on it. I couldn’t believe that. 46 backwards! At one point in the night they had a random drawing for a guitar giveaway and the person who won it was 46! I told myself this is all entirely too weird!! Mind-blowing! But again, God showing me He is there… loving me.. and caring for me. Little signs like these are just so amazing to me.

When I spoke with the band, I told them about my list… and about how they were #46 on it… how much they inspired me… and about the weirdness of my tag and what not. They LOVED it and couldn’t believe they were on my “bucket list”. One of the band members, Randy… signed my cd “#46″ with a X through it (as to say “check!”), drew little arrows on tag to switch the numbers and then suggested we all make “4s” and “6s” in our photo. SO RAD.

This night was so amazing for many many reasons. I loved that I got to share such a special moment with the band releasing their 3rd album. I loved meeting them and finally telling them how much their music means to me. I loved hopping on a plane to make one more of my dreams come true.  I love that Randy and I both have “Inspired” tattooed on our arms! (another “coincidence”) I love that I got to share this experience with one of my best friends. I love that I left Nashville feeling even more inspired than ever before. And I love that God loves little ‘ol me… THAT MUCH. I am so so so unworthy.

BE INSPIRED. LIVE THE DREAM.

And while you’re at it, check out the best band in the whole world. www.redmusiconline.com

What inspires YOU?

To RED, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!! Please never ever stop doing what you were so obviously created to do. Your music is changing the world. It already changed mine.
