I love weddings. I truly truly truly love them!! I absolutely adore being a part of each of my client’s stories and being able to share memories with them on their special day. I not only love photographing them, but I actually really enjoy the entire process of a wedding. I love it when my clients ask my opinion on certain things and actually trust me when I give my advice. You have to think of it this way, most brides have never been married, nor planned a wedding. Any talented vendor in the wedding industry has “gotten married” a jillion times. Thus, they have way more experience on what works, and what doesn’t. It is SO important that when you hire any vendor for your wedding… not only do you make sure you like them and their work, but that you like them enough to trust them. Too many times have I seen things at weddings that could have gone smoother, or there could have been less stress for the bride, or certain things could have looked better in photos, etc. I’m definitely not a photographer who just goes to the wedding and “does my job”. It is not only incredibly important to me that the photos turn out at amazing as possible, but that the wedding itself does. I want the bride to get everything she ever dreamed of and more when it comes to her big day. I really care so much about each of my clients and that is why every single detail is so important to me.

If you’ve been a long time follower of my blog, then you have definitely heard me talk about one of my favorite vendors in the industry. Valerie Metrejean Woerner. She is the owner of Southern Fete and specializes in event planning, inspiration and invitations. Her style is super fresh, creative and she, like me, is all about stepping outside the box and making your wedding unique and memorable. I absolutely LOVE how this woman thinks. Anytime we get together we could talk for hours about our ideas to make not only our businesses better, but our client’s weddings as well. She is someone I am proud to say I trust in this industry. Even though she is young like me, she has more talent and experience with how to make your wedding amazing than most.

Valerie has taken the time to write 5 different blog posts with some GREAT advice for your wedding planning. I couldn’t have said any of the things she said better. She talks about how to communicate with your vendors, how to put out fires on the wedding day, the ideal bride, timing and SO much more. I wanted to share these with you because if you are planning a wedding, I am certain this advice will greatly help you. Oh and PS. Hire Val! ; )

I love these two. Amanda and Alex are possibly the most laid back couple I have met. It’s so obvious they compliment each other perfectly and it’s just so easy to be around them. Another thing I absolutely LOVE about Alex and Amanda is how much they love to travel. When Amanda originally called me to discuss her wedding, she was in London! (My favorite city!!!) If you know me at all, you know that I am OBSESSED with traveling. It’s right up there with how much I love photography. So anyone who loves to travel as much as I do is A-OKAY in my book!!  Everything went perfectly the day of the wedding… the weather threatened rain, but it stayed away and I love how the photos turned out.

Thank you Amanda and Alex for being so wonderful and SO easy to work with. I will forever be grateful for your trust in me as your photographer. I hope you cherish the photos for-like-ever. xo

Amanda and Alex opted to do a First Look. Also known as seeing each other before the ceremony. I am SO SO SO happy that most of my clients are so open to this idea when I present it to them. I cannot say it enough… best decision ever!!! It really makes the day flow so much better and allows the couple to have a private intimate moment together before all the chaotic-ness of the day begins.

I think Alex likes what he sees. ; )

After spending a few moments together… we walked around and took some more relaxed portraits of the two.

Then it was SHOWTIME. Love this shot Deirdre got.

It’s quite obvious how happy they are together. : )

Yay!!!!!

I loooooooooove when brides dare to be different. There is nothing that makes me happier as an artist when my clients think outside the box instead of following what everyone else does. I have already shot Meghan’s wedding and engagement shoot last year but we never had the chance to do her bridal shoot then so we decided to make that happen before it got too hot outside! Meghan told me she wanted something different and suggested we head to a local boat marina. (Which happens to be the same one “Failure to Launch” was filmed!) I was in love with this idea so after snapping a few photos at her mother’s home, we headed to the marina and I absolutely LOVE what we got. Thanks Meghan for being so willing to do whatever my crazy ideas were!!!! xoxo

When Lindsey and Nick contacted me all the way from New Jersey to let me know they were planning their destination wedding to Louisiana, I was just thrilled!!! I have several couples who live in other states that come to Louisiana to marry, but it’s usually because they have family here or some connection to this state. Not Lindsey and Nick. They didn’t know anyone here but were drawn to our beautiful Southern Plantations and since Lindsey is from Florida they thought Louisiana would be the perfect spot for their closest friends and family to gather and celebrate their big moment. I loved this. They flew in for their engagement shoot this past fall (which you can see here! <– some of my favorite pictures!) and after getting to know them I just could not wait to shoot their wedding!! They chose one of my ABSOLUTE favorite locations in the south… Houmas House Plantation. The day was amazing and I LOVE how the photos turned out. I will let them tell you the story of this beautiful wedding between two beautiful people.

Thank you Lindsey and Nick … I know how important photos are to both of you, so this was SUCH an honor. I only hope I did your memories justice. Thank you for everything!!!! I hope to see you again!! xoxo

The beautiful bride preparing to see her groom!!

There are SEVERAL things I love about Houmas House… but one of my favorites is how much they cater to the groom and his groomsmen. Not many venues (if any) do that. Houmas House has this adorable little bar called the Turtle Bar which is air conditioned and perfect for the guys to hang out while the girls get ready. MAN BONDING TIME YA KNOW.

Nick and Lindsey are very wise people and opted to do a First Look before the ceremony. VERY WISE. ; )  BEST DECISION EVER. Deirdre captured this angle as Lindsey made her way to see Nick. I always LOVE this moment because you can just feel the anticipation in the air. I’m getting antsy just writing this!!

SIIIIIIIGH…. I just love the First Look. You just can’t get this intimacy any other time of the day. This is your only chance to have a private moment together. Well, I mean, I am there but don’t worry… I always work my magic NINJA DISAPPEARING skills and you won’t even see me there. No really…. try me.

Seriously, SIIIIIIIIGH. I love couples that are truly in looooovveeee.

After taking some time to snap photos of the beautiful couple, we did some bridal party photos so we would have more time after the ceremony to enjoy the festivities.

James Bond much?

Beautiful ladies.

Lindsey and Nick’s wedding was held Easter weekend and while I was walking around the grounds I made a new friend, the EASTER BUNNY!!!!! He was so cute and hopped right up to me and told me he wanted his photo taken. Yep.

Okay, so again… not only does Houmas House have that super cool bar for the guys… they also have a POOL ROOM for them!!! While they are waiting for the big moment, they will always entertain themselves with a few games and I just think that is super rad.

And now ladies and gentlemen, for the big moment…

BEAUTIFUL Lindsey waiting for her father to walk her down the aisle. Thanks to Deirdre for capturing this lovely shot.

One of my favorite local harpists, Ashley Toman, was there to show us her beautiful talent and set the mood for the ceremony.

Married!!! YAY LOVE THIS MOMENT!!!

And this one… pure candidness… and LOVE.

After a few celebratory hugs and kisses… we shot a few family photos.

And then took some time to shoot a few more photos as the sun began to set. LOVE this one:

Cocktail Hour:

After toasting it was time to par-tay! And party they did. : )

Up north the tossing of the garter isn’t quite as common, so I thought it was extremely funny how excited the guys were to catch it.

Deirdre captured this really sweet moment between the happy couple and I love it.

The End of a beautiful day!! But the beginning of a beautiful marriage. Congrats Nick and Lindsey!!!

Boy oh boy do I have a beautiful couple to show you today!!! Pam and Anthony look like the people that go in picture frames when you buy them. They are so gorgeous!! Both of them! ; ) They are definitely going to make some pretty babies!!! I asked both of them individually how they met each other. Pam explained to me that she noticed him at Barnes and Noble once, they said a few words but didn’t exchange numbers. She somehow came across him on Myspace several weeks later and there is what started the beginning of what is now a beautiful relationship. She explained this whole story in beautiful detail.. (which I adore!) Then when I asked Anthony the same question, he simply replied, “she stalked me on Myspace.” Hahahahahhahaa. I died laughing!! Obviously it paid off because they have such a cute relationship and I am so excited to document their wedding later this year!!

Pam and Anthony, thanks for letting me get to know you and for allowing me to be a part of this special time in your lives!!! xo

Another thing I love about being a part of destination weddings… is we generally get the opportunity to do a “trash the dress” or “day after” shoot with the happy couple. If you saw my post from yesterday, you have already seen Marissa and Mike’s wedding day in Jamaica. And now I want to share with you some of their images from their TTD shoot!! A shoot like this is super fun because it allows us to take our time and get even more relaxed and fun photos. And you can’t go wrong with a location like Negril Jamaica!!

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARISSA!!! I didn’t plan it for these to be blogged on your birthday but I am so glad it worked out that way!!! Hope you have an amazing birthday. You deserve it!!

And thank you Jamaica for being as always, beautiful and welcoming.

Love this one Deirdre captured:

A little friend came to play.

Love.
