So today I have a little story to tell you. I want you to get to know me a little better. You may or may not know this… but the country of Peru played a HUGE part on my life and who I am today. I lived there for about 6 years.. mostly in my teenage years. It would take a million blog posts to tell you all about it and all of the incredible experiences that took place in those 6 years. But I sort of feel like that is when my life began. When I think back on memories, Peru is very dominant in my mind because SO many adventures took place there and it definitely changed my life forever. Long story short, my parents moved my family to Peru when I was 11 yrs old. My father felt in his heart that it was his calling to become a missionary to this amazing country and thus the reason I have a connection with Peru. The rest is pretty much history. While I was there I met so many wonderful people. Tons and tons of them. Some of them came and left, and some stayed. Some were acquaintances and some became friends for life. I am so grateful that my dad brought us to Peru for a million and a half reasons but one of my favorite reasons is because of how many wonderful friendships were formed because of it. When we moved there, there were a few American missionary families already there that had begun a couple of churches.  We had the opportunity to work with them as they helped us all adjust to the shock of moving to a third world country (that’s a whole ‘nother story and blog post!) and helped us find our place there. One of the amazing families was the Barriger Family. Pastor Robert Barriger and his wife Karyn had already been in Peru 11 or 12 years when we moved there. He and entire family were doing amazing things in the country of Peru with their church Camino De Vida. He had 2 children who were both very close to my age and over the years of living there, I became pretty close to both of them. His daughter Jenna and I were bestest of friends, we did so much together including lots of slumber parties and photoshoots (she’d model for me and I’d be the photographer, duh!) and Taylor was always a creative GENIUS that I looked up to and admired… he once even asked me to create a leopard pattern in his hair with hair dye. Still don’t know why he asked me but it actually came out pretty awesome!! I guess even then he believed in me so much as an artist, even at the mercy of his hair. I’ll have to dig up that photo to show you. Taylor recently called me and asked me if I could at the last minute fly down to Peru for their annual family portrait that they will use in their Christmas cards. I of course was THRILLED and completely honored. I haven’t been to Peru in 3 years so this was not only an opportunity for me to visit for a couple of days but the mere thought of being able to photograph this family that I have known more than half of my life, and have admired and looked up to ever since… was extremely exciting.

So, a couple of weeks later I was on a plane to Peru and accomplished my mission!! I only hope I did the photos justice… oh with the pressure of being flown down to South America just for that and all!! I had so much fun and again still feel so humbled and blessed to have been able to photograph this beautiful family.

On a side note: I am still planning to make a trip next summer to Peru and will be posting details for all of you who want to join me. We will be going to visit the Camino De Vida orphanage that is located outside of Lima and for fun we’ll also be visiting Machu Picchu. Tons more information and details coming soon. : ) I am SO excited about that trip!! And I hope you can come.

Taylor, thank you so much for inviting me down!! I am still so blown away by your confidence in me… and coming from YOU, it truly means way more than you could possibly ever know. Robert, Karyn and Jenna. Thank you so much for always believing in me. You have all made a huge impact on my life and I am HONORED just to know you. I love you all so much!!!

Meet the Barrigers:

Absolutely love the next two.

Love love love this:

While I was in Peru I also got the chance to photograph another amazing family. Nick Balcombe was another one of my dear friends growing up in Peru. He and his entire family were like my family too and I still just love each and every one of them. His beautiful wife Kristin moved to Peru several years later when we were all adults and the rest is pretty much history with those two. Nick and Kristin, along with their beautiful children, Jude and Reese, are serving with Pastor Robert at Camino De Vida in Peru.

Let me just say, I know first hand what it’s like to live in a 3rd world country and dedicate your life to the ministry of serving others. It’s not easy whatsoever to have to give up American conveniences and luxuries, along with all of your friends and family. It takes people with incredibly beautiful hearts to be able to do this… and the families above are some of the finest examples of people with beautiful hearts I have ever met in my life. I look forward to being able to bring a group of people with me to Peru next year so you can too, have the opportunity to experience what it’s like. I am truly the luckiest girl alive to have been able to live in Peru and be inspired by all of the amazing people there… Americans and Peruvians. We are so blessed. Count your many many blessings.

Kristen contacted me recently to let me know her and her husband wanted to celebrate their 4 year wedding anniversary by taking photos with ME! I was THRILLED. She wanted to do it with her wedding attire which made it even better!! We actually did the shoot on their actual wedding anniversary too which was so sweet and flattering. I call this type of shoot a Newlywed session, but it’s a GREAT idea no matter how long it’s been since you were wed. We had so much fun with the shoot and I LOVE how the photos turned out. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Kristen and Michael, thank you SOOOOO MUCH for giving me this opportunity and for being willing to do literally anything I asked. I hope you adore your photos forever and ever! Never stop loving one another. xoxo

A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from a dear friend in Peru asking me to come down to shoot his family’s portrait. Which is where I am now! I arrived late last night and will be here a couple of days. More on that later… but needless to say I won’t really have time to blog this week due to being in Peru. But I did want to at least post a couple of sneak peeks from a shoot I did last week! Can’t wait to post them all! Kristen and Michael have been married 4 years and decided to throw on their wedding attire and take some photos for their anniversary! A brilliant way to spend your anniversary if you ask me. ; ) More soon!

If there was a way to imagine the perfect Southern wedding, this is most likely how I would do it.  It was the most perfect day, the most beautiful venue, and the most fabulous couple. One of my favorite things about this day is the fact that Andrea really listened to my advice on time lines for the wedding day. I helped her plan the time of the ceremony, time of photos, etc. I’m no wedding planner by any means, but I do know a thing or two about lighting and timing your wedding properly to get the most beautiful photos. Andrea took my advice on everything and because of that she was able to get some photos that I am very proud of and also her day was a lot less stressful because she trusted me. I LOVE THAT. I feel like when my clients completely trust me, that’s when they get the absolute best photos and a much smoother wedding day. I’m not a photographer who just takes a check and sits back and doesn’t care. I really take pride in ALL of my work and genuinely care about all of my clients. It’s so important to me that every single one walks away in LOVE with their photos and their memories.

Andrea and Blake are so beautiful! I actually met Blake years and years ago when we worked out at the same gym… it was SO cool when Andrea contacted me to shoot their wedding and I found out her fiance’ was Blake! He is such a genuinely nice guy and I always knew he would end up with an amazing woman. I was not mistaken! Andrea is so lovely and so creative and fun!! She has great style and I have been so excited to shoot their wedding since we met. We had the opportunity to shoot their engagement photos a couple of months ago at Nottoway Plantation which you can see here. It was so fitting since their wedding was also held at this beautiful Southern location. We couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather — everything was perfect! Please enjoy a few of my favorites from their wedding day.

Andrea and Blake, thank you thank you thank you… from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me. Not only with documenting your day, but with allowing me to give my advice. I appreciate it so much and I hope you will forever cherish the photos and the memories. xoxo

Kali, of The Plantation Florist created all of the floral arrangements for the day including Andrea’s beautiful bouquet.

This was the most creative outfit I have seen a bride wear on her wedding day while she gets ready. So cute!!

Love all of the shots with her mom. Andrea made for a stunning bride!

Deirdre captured the following shot of Blake as he waited for Andrea. They opted to do a “First Look” and see each other before the ceremony. BEST DECISION YOU CAN MAKE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY.

I think Blake was impressed. ; )

After they spent a few intimate moments together, I shot a few photos of them for another 15 minutes. I absolutely love having the time to take more photos of the bride and groom without feeling the pressure of needing to hurry up and get to the reception. Love the First Look!!

Another GREAT reason I love the First Look… is that we are able to do all the bridal party photos before the ceremony as well. And if you know ANYTHING about weddings, you know that as soon as the wedding is over, the bridal party is SO ready to get to the party. No one wants to stick around and take photos so being able to do the photos ahead of time is truly one less thing anyone has to stress about.

Andrea and Blake ordered a guestbook of their engagement photos. LOVE! This is such a great way for your friends and family to see your favorite photos from your engagement shoot and plus is a great keepsake for you after the wedding! Guests are able to leave notes instead of just a signature.

The beautiful cakes were designed and created by Fairy Dust Cakes. I discovered that she makes ALL of her cakes CUSTOM. No two cakes look alike. Love it.

Love the shots Deirdre got at this angle:

While I shot from this angle:

Haha love this!

I love this set up at Nottoway, because it feels like they are royalty! And on your wedding day, you SHOULD feel like royalty.

Right after the ceremony, we shot a few family portraits while I still had beautiful light outside.

And then we took about 10 minutes to take a few more photos of the happy couple.

Because Andrea and Blake did a First Look, they were still able to enjoy their cocktail hour with guests. If they had not done a First Look, this would not have been possible. First Look scores again!

As the sun set, guests shifted from the plantation to the reception room and the atmosphere was nothing short of romantic.

Blake and Andrea entered their first dance as husband and wife.

Love this shot D captured.

As Andrea’s father gave a speech, she looked on admiringly.

I absolutely adore how much Andrea loves children.

As the guests gathered outside to see them off, the couple took advantage of that moment to share their last dance together.

And they lived happily ever after!

You may remember these two beautiful people from their engagement shoot I shot this past Spring. Or from the bridal shoot that Star completely rocked. They are both so beautiful inside and out and the wedding was nothing short of a celebration of two best friends coming together and committing their whole lives together. The day was perfect, the bride was calm and beautiful, the groom was relaxed, friends and family joined… and they said “I do” in front of God and everyone. I picked out a few of my favorites from their wedding day and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!

Star and Wes, you are both so wonderful and I am so grateful God brought you into my life. I am so blessed to have been able to document this time in your lives and hope you love the photos as much as I do! xo

Jimmy Choo’s and sparkle… need I say more?

Loved her bouquet. It was created by Jake’s on the Avenue.

Love how her hands form a heart.

Such a pretty couple!!!!

Love this:

The rest of the evening was nothing short of a fabulous party!

Love this shot Deirdre got.

And they lived happily ever after!

They were born in the same hospital in New Jersey… but it wasn’t until a many years later in life that fate would bring them together. Lindsey may have been born in NJ, but lived in Florida most of her life while Nick was raised in NJ. A few years ago Lindsey moved back and they were both lucky enough to find each other and the rest is history. Now I know you’re thinking, how does Louisiana play into this love story? Lindsey and Nick chose to have a destination wedding with their closest friends and family next Spring and the festivities will be happening here in Louisiana at one of my favorite plantations – Houmas House! How cool is that?  They flew down last week to take care of some of the wedding plans and I shot their engagement photos while they were here. It was the most beautiful day ever and I love how cute these two are together! They told me they love animals so we invited Amigo to be a part of their shoot. Amigo belongs to my family and he is always excited to meet new people. He is the sweetest horse ever and was thrilled to be in front of the camera again. (Check out his last shoot here.)

Lindsey and Nick, I am so so so excited to be a part of your story!! I can’t wait for the big day next year!! Thanks for trusting me with your memories. : ) xo

At this point I had Amigo behind them but he decided he was too far away from the lovebirds and parked himself right next to them for this shot. It was seriously cute.

I love this shot and I love this horse.

I love my job!!!! Eek!
